migrated from Zenfone Max to Samsung J7 prime (2016).

Why?

  • One key problem of the Zenfone Max is the Phone reception.
    • Its a problem that I cannot show easily in front of anyone.
    • Its a design problem, a trade off, and not a bug
  • Responsiveness. Despite the ram management and using developer tools to drop any background applications and activities the phone responds poorly. The time it takes me to activate the camera is embarassing as all my friends and my wife would have had their camera up by the time they saw my camera struggling to load.
What I will miss:
  • Battery Life. While the battery life is exceptional. I will definitely miss the freedome that 5000mha gives and hate having to conserve power. Note that my Education is what the 3-4 hours of readings (~160k words @ 600wpm) are for. I have a LOT of education to catch up on.
  • Call Recordings. Very useful to record all my calls because I forget and I’m usually multitasking when I take a call.
  • A good Recorder App. Samsung J7 Prime’s app sucks.
Notes: I’m a heavy User
  • @Voice Read Aloud app runs about 3-4 hours a day.
  • Google Drive and all its apps are used often enough. While I avoid having to edit documents in on the phone (its painful) i can respond and comment with the google apps services.
    • A lot of the @voice articles are stored in my Gdrive.
  • Pleco Chinese Dictionary is a key study app and I need this to run smoothly as I study. It has low requirements and works pretty much on any phone.
  • Dropbox is key. A lot of the things listen to using @voice are stored in Dropbox.
  • Camera. I document what happens in the plant.
  • Running. I like keeping metrics on my fitness.
Perks
  • It came with free Samsung Bluetooth Level Active Earphones. I assign a “small device” reliability metric to this of 20% fail in 5-6 months, and plus 10% per month there after of regular use. it has a 50-60usd value. the phone is at 250usd value.
  • A new head phones that come with the phone.
Cons
  • I just bought the Zenfone Max on July 2016. Its just 6 months old.
  • I will need to do Device House keeping.
  • I will be keeping a power bank handy in all times 🙁
