Complexity of Salaries, some ideas.

Cleaning House.
Cronyism leads to very high salaries. Salaries that are beyond the market norm, and does not reflect the productivity. If such people lose that cronyism-job and need to find work somewhere else they suffer a pay cut. Eventually the job is not cost-effective, and the “free-riding” ends, when market reality kicks in.

It is also bad for morale within the elements of a dept. or unit.

To balance pay increase over time is going to be very difficult, we can get carried away by the Job Salary Survey of how much a job might pay per unit of experience, but that is an Average and does not reflect individual circumstances: companies want more value for money while workers want a higher salary. Also we have a good relationship with our co-workers that make us more biased for them.

My current stance on the matter is to invest in training and development for everyone. The management or leadership does this by making fruitful projects, and saving some of the utilization of the personnel for growth and improvement. Raise salaries enough to keep up with inflation every year.

That means if a Service Desk team can service 250 seats, I’ll probably service 200 instead. What free time and ease the personnel get must be spent on projects that improve the company and themselves. each project has a goal to improve productivity, so that the Production Unit (the personnel) over time can go back to 250 with only 80% of their work capacity, because of the Stock Capital (softwares, skills etc.) that was invested in the Dept.

I’m currently heavily influenced by my banking and savings audiobook lecture. There is a lecture on the role of saving, and this can be applied to resources and self-improvement in general.

Basic Finance Training Sessions

One interesting thing we realized is that there is a NEED to teach personnel Basic Finance, in order to understand how the company makes money and make the most out of so little. to make them think almost like an Economist or Banker, for their career growth and the company’s growth.

Basic Finance gives Sales the ability to adapt and work with numbers within the confines the Board gives them. It allows project heads to understand how best to use their time and effort.

I realized that mindset was absorbed by my gamer nature, and I started using basic finance to think through problems. It has alienated me from regular gamers, but I find it has made me more effective at work.

It has come to the point that I think about each person and their time is equal to PhpX value of the company. that How employ them in certain tasks and how these tasks benefit company has to be compared and contrasted to make an optimum decision. Its that gamer mindset again playing around with basic finance.

A Dynamic Background is Great with Age.

The older the person the harder it is to be employable, but one amazing thing I realize is that a dynamic background in our older employees helps them keep up and adapt quickly to circumstance. Even career people grow to have a dynamic background, trying out variations on their core profession. they don’t stop changing or settle, they try to master something and move on to higher value work.

I realized this lesson when looking at our older employees is best communicated to the younger ones. Changing jobs is painful and filled with unexpected turns and corners, not to mention hardship, but the “risks” has their benefits and prevents one from being calcified/frozen in place.

One can be Dynamic in the same job, but that entails lending yourself to other departments and learning all aspects of each department. This was the training my mentor, our COO, put me on. It worked and I realized that it was the dynamic environment, having to learn to swim in the different departments, helped.

For the Students and New Hires.
I realized, maybe this would be great for our OJTs. The IT or Psych Ojts spending a week in one department learning about each one and giving detailed reports about what they learned in each of them. They must see how they and their background interact with the different department. The more people they are exposed to in work, the better for their maturity.
