There is no such thing as a “Perfect System.” Stop waiting for it. 🛑 Improve as we go – the Improv Nature of being a TTRPGer is important to accept and flow with what comes your way.
We’ve been reflecting on how we build our processes, and it really comes down to a few core truths:
1. The Critical 20% We focus on the 20% of the work that we are absolutely certain of. We lock that in. The rest? We add it incrementally, triggered only when a real issue or “Pull” arises. We don’t invent problems; we solve the ones that actually show up.
2. How We Grow (Seniors vs. Juniors) Growth is stepping into the unknown. Our Senior staff pioneer the path—they take the hits and turn their accomplishments into SOPs.
- Juniors inherit these SOPs to learn the fundamentals. They build over the gaps and refine the weaknesses of the system.
- Seniors then get to move on. They use their mastery to explore new applications, take calculated risks, and invent the next step.
3. Frustration is Just a Gap Everything we do is traceable to a core method: Start with a Problem Statement -> PDCA Cycle. If there is frustration, it doesn’t mean the system is broken. It just means there is a gap—a skill we haven’t mastered yet or a tool we haven’t fully integrated. We don’t panic; we just cycle again.
4. The 60/40 Rule Productivity isn’t about being busy 100% of the time. We aim for 60% Work and 40% Discovery. That 40% is for covering your teammates, reflecting on the day, and taking notes. Our goal is to keep shrinking the “Work” part so we have more time for the big questions: What problem should we tackle next? What risks should we be planning for?
Build the imperfect system. Master the bandwidth you have. Then cycle. 🔄
