50 years ago Factory workers were cutting edge, now they are unskilled labor

This article was disturbing in its view regarding factory workers being constant for 50 years. Why You Shouldn’t Shop at Wal-Mart on Friday Today workers who do command such a salary are Engineers and Technicians, who may be returning to the Factory floor because of Rapid Prototyping (the greater computerization of heavy equipment). When salaries droped from 50USD to 8USD, the work became relatively simpler. There is more technology and more education per capita now, more than 50 years ago. The level of education factory worker in the 1960s as compared to the newer factories/production lines that require very sophisticated technology, a mix of skills in IT and Engineering, and continuous investment in riskier education and technology.

Another False Dichotomy… but this is how many make their living.

If you look at it with a World Building lense, and focus on the Individual, one who continiously invests in training and education, and with a bit of luck, rise to meet and exceed performance.
