My Hypothesis of Memory

  • Spaced Repetition can also be described as Spaced Repeated Triggering.
  • Spaced Repetition (SR) Works at a Kinesthesis and Perceptual level.
  • SR This works with Improv. That Improv is recalling a formula of discussion. example when a certain offer is given, the Improv-or will use the offer, with a counter offer, minus/plus 10%, and contractual condition.
  • That designing the Trigger to be:
    • the key conditions that the skill would be best applied at. example: learning a counter attack needs a trigger of a particular attack. Or to attack a particular part (like leading leg, or arm) when the guard is a particular way.
  • We can fill our time budget with as many words as possible, as long as we can trigger the recall in a week or more than a few days after.
  • We can design ourselves by designing our memory.

That recalling from trigger is more effective if working memory is entirely clear of any remnant of the idea, technique, or skill. That when it is out of our conscious mind the exercise of recalling it from deeper layers becomes more effective. We are talking about Spaced Repetition but I realized adding Spaced Repetition Trigger helps describe it better because we dont want to “Review” or see the knowledge, skill, ability we want to practice but its Trigger or the Conditions that should trigger the knowledge, skill, or ability.

My latest addition to this is it works in all levels. That it works in Physical Exercise and Techniques. That if we create the ideal trigger: responding to an opponent shifting their weight, attacking in a flurry, or lunging and proceed to exercise the recall of the physical skills we continue to ingrain it in long term memory and make it such a part of us as to be recalled at the speed we recall language.

That formulas in speech, math, processes in problem solving, in empathy (seeing problems with the model of our mentors) etc… can all be techniques that are triggered and mastered through Spaced Repetition.

It also highlights why training in combat and martial arts is so time consuming: because if you isolate the Triggers and the Recall exercises – we don’t really allow ourselves to expel it from our working memory for the day or the week, in order to recall it. The Quality Time (or Touch Time) that matters in forming the memory is far smaller in the composition of our exercise.

It also means, we can practice as many words and recall Items we have time for: as long as we attempt on them again in a week. Letting us forget it from our conscious thought, is the best way to exercise that muscle.

That all our long term memories are made up of all the randomness of our circumstance, background, and upbringing until we 5S (design our circumstance and surroundings) to make us who we want to be. To design our memory is to design who we are. If given enough time, we can analyze our day and life and we can see the reinforcing triggers that make certain personality traits, coping mechanisms, and

And that help comes in the form of designing Techniques that speed up the development and designing of our Surroundings to reinforce (through Spaced Repetition) the skills, and models of personality and behavior that we would like to have of our selves. That this very hard part would take a lot of time out of the week to study, design, experiment and implement.

Update:
Stuff I have to formulate for myself and Keep visible (because I need it physically available while I form the memory and ideas; so it doesnt occupy too much head-space). Thanks to +Jay Duggar
