Numbing Ourselves – Expecting the worst

I am struggling to be a Numb as possible for work, yet look at the positive side. I can see it whenever 1-2 manhour task (outside of expectations) seems like an Impossible barrier and not a worthwhile activity.
The reality is that we work with people, and telling them to stop complaining, to numb themselves, to tough it out, is to push them to a mindset that a minor task is an impossibility. To reduce our disappointment is to set the bar so low that anything OUTSIDE our expectation is a Terrible Idea.
Of course, if you give people hope or optimism, you are responsible for that hope and optimism.
Uggg I am aware of the Manic personality I have and my mom has and how our moods can bring down a lot of people. High Variance Personality has the ability to reach Peaks that would give a tangible advantage but has crushing depths. A steady personality that is easier to deal with doesn’t have the self-hurting passion needed to seize an opportunity in the volatile environment of a relatively small business.
The cost of this balancing act is indecision and paralysis.
