Center of Excellence – as a Hobby/Advocacy

A dream of having more Liberal or Media Arts grads in IT and QA. People who have skills in communicating complex systems and consolidating sophisticated knowledge. They may not be the guy who will figure out the workaround to buy the team breathing room, but they will more likely be able to Make sure End-User requirements are as minimum as can be delivered – as to bring the cost down and make the solution be achieved easily.

Liberal Arts having more Mental Models and media Arts having the Data Representation or Communication abilities needed. While My IT abilities are mediocre – my ability to train others is better than most IT because of my communication skills.

I know having such a system would mean about 2-3 People in salaries, and the facilities and equipment overhead of such people and skills would be about good for 12 “seats” (probably costing about 20-30usd per month per seat). 1 person would be directly related to getting participating in Schools and Communities.

If I had basically 2 full-time Trainers of about 400-500usd per month. Facility costs for the Space for Training would be about 360usd per month. Equipment – Old Spare Servers, Micro-Datacenters all costing about 1,000usd second hand, and some cutting edge new equipment would be 5,000 to 15,000usd. The 15,000usd for a refresh every 3 years. Monthly this would cost the company probably 600usd for 3 years. This is on top of the Total Cost of Technology Overhead I’ve calculated for our company at 25k USD (1.25M Php) per month for 500 employees. Increasing our total cost of Overhead to 31k per month, but making it sustainable.

Students are encouraged to use our Facilities to Conduct Training for other Companies, Organizations, other Schools, etc… From necessary Office Server Deployments (Active directory, FTP server, VLANs, Firewalls, Intranet Services, Public IP systems and how to secure them), Use of Virtual Machines, and Deployment of most Open Source ERP systems.

With the Trainers 1 full-time Media Specialists who will make graphics and designs material and templates, as well as updating our Content-Management-System of current breakthroughs.
And of course the 4,000usd of Media Equipment to record and post all of these online.

The trainer’s time and efforts will be 70% be related to Training work. They would be assigned projects and auditing the documentation and deliverables of the Trainees. 30% of the Trainers will be dealing with the Schools, LGUs, and TESDA* (https://www.tesda.gov.ph/). Getting Trainees and having the schools participate in our training and using the technology of the Students. Using GPL2 for all these.

I expect that I will get reports from the trainers and review the materials, spending about 5-10% of my hours a week. I would be auditing their work and looking for Demos – requiring independent people to demonstrate their expertise.
