I wanted to use ERPNext for our Journal Voucher (Basically our Master Transaction list for Payable and Receivables). Its not that simple, of that the most important and largest unit is the Payables. That is the Purchase Invoices, but that has 4 Prerequisites: Item, Supplier, Purchase Order and Purchase Receipt (Optional but in our company, it is important depending what the item is).
So I have to do Purchase Order, but I have to set up the Suppliers first. But the Suppliers is not that simple the way WE record Suppliers is they are what in ERPnext considers: Contacts as well. To do this I need to Learn Data Import, and Doctype enough to allow us to Upload our Suppliers . But to do that I had to make Dummy companies and perform several attempts. as well as Figure out our Our Online Purchasing System.
I have to do this while writing everything down. Getting lost in the Weeds and reflecting back at why am I trying to upload our Supplier’s report into ERPNext. Of course I encounter problems along the way: the Virtual Machine stops working, or my team mates have a problem deploying their own ERPNext VM in their network.
Next week I have to Import all our Users, the whole company and my Team. I have to switch from the Traveller TRPG company I was using to make this fun and migrate to our actual company list. That way the “Clone” VMs I create are usable by the Team and Contains all the work we already set up. Then I have to try converting the Clone VMs into OVAs for my team to deploy.
One simple thing is deceptively an ICEBERG of complexity.
In Traveller SRD, I encountered the problem that Vacc Suits have Climate Control, but climate control requires power (refrigerant moving heat away from the body of the wearer to a Sink or to atmosphere). ITs not enough to just add the “assumption” of Climate Control I have to differentiate an Environmental Suit from a Vacc Suit and how things are Powered.
For how things are Powered I have to consider Batteries and Generators. Not just any generator: a generator that is a completely closed system (maybe with Radiators). How do I make batteries consistent and what is their Mass to Storage (in Watts). How TLs change the Efficiency and Density of the Battery.
Because one thing leads to another, one decision or factor is not isolated in a system. It affects other things and in Game Design and Writing in TRPGs we learn to do it a systematic and repeatable and consistent way.
