National University Plant and Micro Data Center Capstone Project

Wow it happened – Nu has given the go signal for 2 Capstone Projects.

Capstone for the Plant and Micro data center.

I have almost all the ingredients to make a prototype.

We will be giving the schools a lot of industry knowledge – from repair costs and conditions and electronic breakdowns in the plant.

Expectations: Feasibility Studies – or Requirements Gathering: What are the largest barriers and how to overcome them with a tiny amount of resources. 

What is significant is access to sir Oscar and his 40 years of experience in Data Centers and the Philippine industry of data centers.  Particularly working with schools to build a Knowledge Base. 

For the Plant – ECE

  1. Solar Concentrators and Mirrors. We have metal fabrication, open source boards and SBC allows for programmable systems, we have a programming vendor (who can give us costs and estimates of such a program), we have existing Sollar and relationship to the Vendor who installed them. Increasing the SOLAR power collected before and after NOON PEAK is better. If we can Increase that

    3. Key Concepts: Our Power is highest at noon as our solar panels faces south. Before and After noon – our power generation is less than that. Adding mirrors increases the amount of Sunlight hitting the Solar Panels given time of day. South or North Facing Mirrors reflecting sunlight into our Panels may increase the energy generated. 
    4. Question: At what POWER INCREASE makes it economically viable to Add Sun Tracking Mirrors? 
    5. Even just a FIXED mirror, at what angle will it increase the Power Generated? 
  2. Electronics Repair Analysis: can we have teh proper tools and processes to diagnose Electronics Failure in our COmpany – not just the plant. Would investing in a 300usd Board Microscope worth while? 
  3. Open Source CNC machines. can we purchase a Open Source CNC machine and study the challenges of repairing it and configuring it for the Plant so we dont have Vendor Lock-In. 
MIcro Datacenter
  1. Can We use Comfort Aircons (Instead of PACU) with devices that make it switch on backup aircons for Cabinet Data Centers? Basically, IMPROVE the Options by giving options for those who cannot GET Precision Airconditioners. 
  2. Study the Challenges of Making a PACU locally – document it in a Paper.
