A luxury to manage your emotions

why is my family, time to think, talk with friends, and rest considered a luxury? 

Its not a boat, a plane, an extra home, an extra car, an extra set of recreation? 

I lost sleep the other night (typical old person problems), and after all my studies into EQ and better experiencing my emotion I could feel all the anger, dread, fear, and loathing I am able to control when I’m well-rested. Just feeling all those things made me doubt I am a good person. 

Spending the time feeling an emotion is tasting food. 尝 means to taste and experience and I never realized how tasting IS experiencing until learning Chinese :D. You get to notice the different ways they can make your mcdo cheeseburger, you notice the tens of different details of food you take the time to taste. It works the same with emotions. 

It was in Philosophy of the mind lecture that made me realize that we are “told” what we feel at an early age, but not what we feel means. The way scientists learned that the intensity of hunger is equal to the need for food not the quantity of food need (hence starved people vomit out food when given too much). that is the same as an emotion or sensation – it is counter-intuitive and society shapes what we do instead of helping us do what is best to address the emotion (address the problem is a Quality, Engineering, and Scientific approach that strangely one does when one examines ones emotion: asking “what is the problem” “what is this sensation?”. 

Unlearning how to process/manage/deal with “negative” emotions based on cultural practices vs the more relatively-recent sciences (cbt, mindfulness, eq).
