You can specialize in either High Uncertainty and Low Data, vs High Data (and thus Analysis) and more Coordination and moving a large cumbersome company.
Entrepreneurship
- Shorter and faster (agile) PDCA cycle. meant to react quickly to any opportunities.
- has less to lose than a mature business.
- Must Transition to Ops Management when the Biz gets more Mature and Capital/Knowledge investments LIMIT the options of the company.
- Skills focused with working with Uncertainty and Risks. Most of this uncertainty skills are Morale Management
- Project Confidence, asks for more Faith and Trust
- Active Listening and Empathy
- A more simplified Information Management system
- and not a lot Technical Risk Management skills (there is some but not much).
- The status quo of most emerging and developing companies. Everyone is an entrepreneur, being good though is the question.
Ops Management.
- Longer PDCA cycle – BUT has
- higher consistency,
- higher quality,
- higher capacity and output
- and operates off a Body of Knowledge and more Technical Sophistication. Businesses BUT Requires a Technical BOK
- Has more Technical Risk Management
- Has more to lose than a developing business
- because of the Investments made over time to its processes and systems.
- As well as the inherent Complexity
- More PLANNING. in order to move a large organization with complex elements, more Telegraphing information and expectaitons and Feedback loop to course correct as you move is needed. Things happen in a scale of Months.
- Risk Management is built on BOK of the company. ALl the problems from before have been reviewed and countermeasures and mitigation have been made.
- Less need for Morale Techniques that Handle Uncertainty, more focus on Analysis.
- more on FOCUS and Objectives
- Leadership focuses on Buy In with Data to support it. Less need for Confidence or Credibility.
- More Systems and Relationships THinking.
- Doesnt need to ask for Faith and Trust, stress in DATA Presentation and Analysis Skills
- A position found in most mature companies and thus coveted and scarce.
