Pomodoro Technique for Book Studies.

I have about 6-7 Textbooks to study this year, that I can’t just simply Audio Learn. Some of them require a deeper level of knowledge like knowledge relevant to ITIL Certification and restructuring.

Basically with my notebook and a 15minute timer, how many pages Can I finish with notes? Every page or few of pages I write notes as the key take aways. This method is spurred by the need to sit down and perform a task I don’t exactly like. Focusing and getting something done, without the use of the internet. While the internet is a powerful tool, it shouldnt substitute for something it can’t replace – Attention and Focus. So sitting down to do 15mins of book learning is going to take a will roll. the way my Chinese takes a lot of will rolls.

Note Taking Take Aways.

  1. What is Actionable? In my own words write down what I think the point of all of the pages I’ve read. Typically this means  an Action or a Method, and summarize the method. If it does not provide an Action to DO, typically it is about Criterias and Constraints.
  2. What are the Criterias and Constraints? If its not Actionable, the next thing it can be are Criterias and Constraints. What are the conditions, circumstances, constraints, and criterias surrounding a Course of Action or a Method. What not to do falls under this as well.
  3. Background and Reasoning. Neither Actionable, nor Criterias or Constraints, knowledge tend to be Background and Reasoning. This is when the criterias are not so clear and have varying degrees of indirect relationship from a course of action or what to do.
Despite all this there is a reality about if we really value knowledge, skills, and learning. Skill acquisition is something a lot of people don’t have a tangible and direct feedback mechanism to be real.
