In our Working Memory/Attention and Life we can only be good at the things we focus on.
Attention Mechanics
Attention. (In a DnD Ability Score like system) We have as many Attention Points (AP) as we have (Int/2)+2. In any given time our attention is allocated among the following:
Focus. Something we are concentrated on.
Awareness. Something we keep in mind but do not
Blindside. Is everything outside our Attention..
In Combat we can Focus on an Opponent or Strategy (strategies are for those with some basic combat abilities or proficiencies). We can be aware of Defense or attack.
To have a Basic level (No Penalty or 0) of ability one needs to allocate an amount of resource of Attention.
To raise the level of Ability, it costs double and doubles. 1AP for +0 modifier, 3AP for +1 modifier, 7AP for +2 etc…
Distraction. Distraction penalties manipulate focus. Emotion like Fear makes AP tied to Defense, Anger makes AP tied to the opponent or the driver of the emotion.
With this Mechanic Try to see if we are squandering AP or Planning how we can use them, and willing to take the trade-offs or know our trade offs.
Songs: Periods and Peaks or Durations and Depths
So much of life are in Periods – the 90% of the time that happens and the Peaks are the Rare instances we are Inspired, Miserable, Happy or etc…
While running I realized that the Music helps me PUSH and thrive in the 90% of everything that I had to endure. That the PEAKS are illusions that distract me from being able to “suffer” or “Work”. The BEST or WORSE of me is not me, the Periods of who I am is what makes up me. Analyze who am I from my Periods and not my Peaks/Depths.
So the next Work out or Benchmark, I need to remember Forget the PEAKs/Depths focus on the Periods. What I do between the PEAKS is the sustainable me.
I got to thinking about it when I was watching how much there were Peaks and Valleys when I look back in the Simpsons in my memory. I keep forgeting these guys do this for a living – they have to produce funny stuff even when they are out of their mind and uninspired. This is the Stoic or Zen or Calm acceptance of our limits and the pursuit for being better.
