Installing Ubuntu Kylin 16.04.2 into ASUS X541N 15.6″ Notebook

Total Time of 2-3 hours.
Asus X541N
Intel 4 Core N3450
Procedure
  1. Prepare the USB Boot Drive. I used Rufus in my Windows 10. Inserted it to Notebook before turning it on.
  2. F2 to go to Bios
  3. Guessing that the other “boot priority” was the USB and that I used a mouse to reassign it and F10 to save.
  4. Ubuntu Kylin Loaded and I went through the usual Ubuntu Install.
  5. Because I was Partition took >20mins because I installed it Along Side my Windows 10.
  6. Finished and Update

After Install Activities

  1. Upgraded LO to 5.4 (took half a day)
  2. GIMP
  3. KAZAAM (because I need to be able to make tutorials for work). Works So far.
  4. VLC

Challenges:

  1.  How to install Libreoffice Offline Help.
    1. I cannot because I installed 5.4.2.2 BUT the offline help is 5.4.2.2-2. 🙁 3 hours lost figuring this out. Some of it was lost sleep.
  2. Installing the Chinese Input was Trial And Error. Unlike regular Ubuntu, changing the Language Settings doesn’t create a Chinese Desktop.
    1. Go to “Language Support” and go to Fcxit from ibus.
    2. Go to “Text Entry” and Add either Sunpinyin/Google Pinyin, or the other Pinyin. (I opted to gpinyin since I’m guessing it has better support).
  3. LO Templates. To have Style changes Saved.
    1. File > Templates > (set as default template) Save as Template. (Do not use Save As to save as a Template, and use Template Manager to Set as Default, it doesnt seem to work for me.)
      1. I’m using this to make my Gdocs Interface the same as LO Writer.
    2. I saved the default template in Cloud or Network so that other LO computers can adopt that template.
Objectives and Reasons
  1. Windows 10 was frustratingly slow. I realize to have an effective Experience with Windows 10 I need at least 3,000 passmark processor and 8+GB RAM.
    1. Power Point Kept Crashing.
    2. I tried using Task Manager to identify all my processes and Issues but its just too big.
  2. To experiment if Linux IS faster? To be able to make a Side By Side video of my Running Linux or Windows.
    1. From boot to Spreadsheet.
    2. Performing a A-typicall Worksheet Tasks. (Needs to be defined and Designed).
