汉语学业新笔记

so according to Pleco I’m at ~400 words learned. I’m not at the 600 word benchmark but a lot has changed. Especially as some words get to higher and higher levels of mastery.

By higher and higher levels of Understanding.

  1. Recognition is very fast. under a second, almost close to my native English word recognision.
  2. recall for use. This is a metric I’ve not realize would be getting faster and faster. Before it was seconds before I got frustrated, now its under a second. The way I use my native language words. Again its conditioning my brain to think in chinese.
  3. more and more context recognition. This is where I learn more and more meanings in the words I already know as they get show up in contexts I am unfamiliar with OR in actual use, which is different from Theoretical undertanding of grammar rules.
  4. Listening Skills. subtle changes of the word because of the words before or after it makes the word I’ve mastered in its isolation another New Experience I’m trying to understand.
So a Word or Rule gets more complicated as experiences add more and more exceptions and details to my understanding. Exceptions and Unfamiliar Usages (even if they are easily within the Rules I know) are those things where “experience” repeatedly matters and makes it different from having just learned the word as part of my daily “New Word” studies.
There will come a point Chinese needs to be 2-3 hours a day of my life. Either me Talking in It or Studying the articles I like reading in Wikipedia 简体中文 and contributing to 简体中文 wikipedia*.
*First I need an Email Correspondence with a someone in Hello talk who can correct my grammar and I will do the same for them. What ever I plan, half will be feedback or reciprocation for the services.
