It was painful and effort ass 4/5 if I measure the concentration by how much I could not feel time pass.
A long way to go. Just 50iah new items sucks an hour. In the long run I will need to study 2 hours everyday. As often as I can in a day.
Stopped many other hobbies just to do this. 🙁 but I feel the value of the skill will be great when I get back to my old hobbies.  A Gm who can speak mandarin and run games in the warring stats era is still a goal for me.
A very long way to go. I hope to reach chapter 14 by end of the year. I working on my tactical lines (a 100+ flashcards of Situations in Insurgency where I have to listen in chinese and reply in chinese as quickly as possible).

I'm just excited to meet another linguaphile! I started studying Latin in 2007, and have dabbled with Old English and Ancient Greek. Ran a one-year campaign in alternate Rome that was very unique for the players. I applaud your efforts and encourage you to stick with it!

Wow near 10 years! Congrats! Another GM who learns languages and applies it to the game 😀 a rare breed and great meeting you Thomas! Which language do you get the most practice out of?
I grew up with 4 years of Highschool Latin, was never really good at it. Actually you bring up something curious, if you need to practice Latin Speaking, to converse at the speed believably of the era, how would you do it?
I discovered Anki and found I can do my Chinese Hacks and apply it to Latin or any language Google TTS has. The hack being – Flash cards of situations in the Target Language and having the Anki app read it to me at the fast speaking speed that would be realistic, and replying in the target language. This is the hack I'm working on for my chinese speaking exercise. In hindsight it I had 1 hour a day of these drills would have been better than classroom study lolz.
