Spent months now and then trying to figure out RAM compatibility. Didn’t know they were pretty much standardized. At the same time trying to find out if I can upgrade GPU/Video Card, didnt know it was hard wired much recently, and I cant.
I tried to buy Ram and upgrades from the Lenovo support from MSI-ECS to no help or avail. He’s not professionally allowed to tell me I can just buy any Lenovo Ram over the counter, which I had to figure out months later.
Plus he tells me replacement Parts or Upgrades will take 90-120 days. Good By Lenovo, when the End of Life of this Machine hits I’ll be migrating to a Asus (since our biz will be partnering with them, since among the other brands their supply chain is willing to make inroads into the Philippine Market and make replacement and support easier; Hello Republic of Gaming Laptops). Of course thats years from now and hopefully with our support these inroads pay off.
I bought Kingston 8GB upgrade ram for my Lenovo for 2.3k php (50usd vs 30usd in Amazon USA) at Compulink Glorietta, learned from the shop technician all of the brands are compatible. So I experimented with my Xubuntu having the 8GB kingston and the Lenovo z50-70 having the lenovo’s RAM.
2Rx8 and 1Rx8 |
Pleasantly surprised their both SAMSUNG Ram chips but one is 2Rx8 and the other one1Rx8 (from the visual inspection, surprisingly different; It just means the chips will be on One side vs both sides lolz). These were both put in the Lenovo Z50-70… and the verdict is: using task manager ctrl+shift+esc… NOPE. It doesnt work, still at 4GB.
Samsung NP340 notebook |
Lenovo z50-70 |
Switched with the Samsung NP340 and VIOLA the Xubuntu 14LTS can work with these two Chips while the windows can’t – point goes to Linux AGAIN. The only reason I keep a windows around is because there are some software that requires Windows, like a good editing software (which I need to get).
Plan to migrate ASUS and needs to save up for ROC computer (need to set aside 50usd every month in the next 3 years). I would probably need to buy my computer from TAIWAN to save up on 30% of the price (typical mark up in Philippine Market in price vs markets like HK, Taiwan, and US). At 100k php (2,500 usd) thats the cost of a Ticket from the Philippines and a day’s stay.
TL:DR Upgraded my Computer, learned about RAM and I can’t wait to migrate away from Lenovo.
