So I looked at my diet and I can barely get the 60g of maintaining protein content I need to be “healthy”. I typically have 3 meals, of about 250g and 50-80g of meat each. Thats about thats 30-48g of protein from just the meat. I can barely count everything else, which is probably only 10g of protein (from rice and other sources).
So I experimented with Beef at 280php (6usd) per kg with Chili that is 50% meat. The dish was about 0.6 php per gram or 500g a day (150php or 3usd) to meet my 60g of protein per day. Now I learned chicken breast is almost half the price of beef at 130-150php or 3usd per kg.
I can exceed my basic protein requirement with chicken at 2 breasts a day or 400g cooked at the cost of 100php a day (with other ingredients). 5 days of the week. 2 chicken breasts prepared in the morning for 4 meals throughout the day with some sides. I would have 80g of protein from just the meat.
So, Duh, I’m migrating to Chicken breast. at 100php a day I can have enough protein to replace and some to build. thats 800 calories btw. I have about 1200 to play around with in the course of the day.
Meal Prep Weekends will be the norm. Monthly this habit will be 80% of my weekly food intake. In a month at 2 usd a day that boils down to 61usd or about 3,200php. Thats just for me.
Note that in the Philippines Minimum wage is 8,000php (160usd), in our plant the average salary is about 17k (340usd). This is about middle class diet levels at 3,200php. In our plant workers tend to spend only 35php for a viand and 18php for 3 cups of rice (a pound of rice). About 150php and with only 100g of protein on average.
Of course my worry is the antibiotics they put in chicken feed. 🙁
I have to analyze how much I spend in coffee, since we got an espresso machine it has gone down to 40php per 40ml shots at an extraction of 1:1.5. The milk at 100ml is at about 7php per cup. a Total of 50php per coffee per day. Everday thats 1500php (30usd) or 90usd a month.
I can go on to talk about my maintenance meds and sedatives that raises my daily “maintenance” but its going to be pretty high. I can go on since I’m undersedatives but my conditioning is telling me its a good time to stop.
Final Metrics.
0.3 php per gram of meat or 1.5php per gram of protein. Hopefully there will be a more sustainable alternative for this in the future. Chickens, Pigs, and Goats/Lambs with their high density are pretty sustainable as compared to beef. I really hope that beyond meat figure out something that will cost me about 100php or 2 usd a day to meet 80g of protein (or 400g of “meat” per day).
Goint to HK for 5 days I’ll need to figure out how to live on Mcdonalds lolz or a sustainable source of protein in fast food.
