Meal Prep Sunday: 50% beef chili

Total Time: set up and cooking was about 1 hour. Sorry I cant seem to order the pictures lolz.

  • 50% ground beef “chili” 
  • 1 kg of ground beef 250php (5-6usd)
  • 2 cans of beans drained wt. of 240g 45php each (1usd each)
  • 1 can of mushrooms, drained wt. of 240g 45php (1 usd each)
  • Half a block of salted butter, probably 50-80g ?40php
  • Pepper Grinder (freshly ground is the best)? php
  • Beef (stock) cubes ?php

Steps

  1. Set up containers. The total mass was about 2.2kg. 
  2. Prep – open the cans and organize it so that the workflow is not prone to accidents. 
  3. On a gallon pot melt half a block of butter and season with pepper. should take about 5 mins or less.
  4. melt 4tbs of beef stock cubes for the seasoning. (i didnt put salt from any other source but these). Mix and melt. I threw in the mushroom can water to soften it up. 
  5. Put in the ground beef and mix – if you can do reps then this should count as a work out lolz. Stir until browning and keep mixing for it to cook evenly. If you can smell the pepper that is a good sign. If you’ve cooked beef before your waiting for the beef to smell cooked and meaty – sorry not very good at explaining the undercooked smell unless youve handled it before.
    It took me about 15 mins to mix it before being cooked.
    TASTE – put a little on a tasting sauce dish (its those 2-3″ shallow sauce bowls) and eat it from there. Season to taste. I put sriracha on mine. 
  6. Once the meat is cooked put in everything else: tomato sauce, mushrooms, and beans. That adds up to about to 1kg If you poured in the brine they come in. You can go to High Medium and keep stirring. Careful not to burn the meat. It should be browning and reddening in about 10-15 mins. You can go high but be mindful of the bubbles.
    Taste as you go, every 5 or so minutes. 
  7. When it browns and tastes ok – done. Then put aside . Thats 2kg 50% meat, so 200g of it should be around 40g of protein. for me thats 2/3 of my daily needs. Good enough for 5 days. 
  8. Total Time was 1 hour. 
  9. My process is to freeze, THEN leave in the chiller to defrost the night before. than “Nuke” it.
