Our safety standards are very close to international standards, what is different is enforcement. So if you are at least compliant with govt safety regulations it would be easy to get intl certificate. In essence your paying for enforcement lolz.
Since “bagskan ng presyo” (price dumping) the saying of “safety first” rings true as it is the first corners cut. Improved enforcement, which the DOLE is doing by making it a higher education requirement, and create a business landscape where safety and health is a serious topic.
Although the reality is that there is a pecking order in govt departments and the recent pdaf debacle points to the poor positibility of this being a reality. Still there are people who see self interest in big projects that have good safety regulations and shielding from a pr disaster.
