My dad and boss throws me some business ideas and I’m the crazy person who checks out if it works. So I read up on the business and it’s really my imagination and geeky/nerdy Background that aids me more than formal training.
Its not as glamorous as it sounds if by the odd chance you think so, a lot of it are dead ends and false leads and one in a millions chances. Several people quit before I came to the picture because of how hopeless it all looks.
I bring a my a bit of my mom to the picture when looking through my dad’s business ideas without exhausting her patience or stressing their relationship. My wife does these evaluations as her job and I get a lot of help from my limited network and friends.
So I’m researching too very different industries right now aerospace and agriculture. I can’t go into details, but these are interesting business but they are outside our core competence and have a lot of their risks that costs more to us to negate since there is not synergy.
Personally I have my own idea where our strengths lie and where we can go given the resources and skills we have. One particular advantage I think we have is the appetite to learn a skill a bit outside our speciality and finding very unusual combos by overcoming the cross training barriers.
It takes a special type of crazy to go Int this kind of business but I hope that it’s special enough that the drawbacks are overcome.
It takes 4 years to penetrate a business, and that costs a lot since you have to set aside your own time to go there. It takes 2 years to lay the foundation and 1 year to try and 1 year to expand or close it properly.
Coefficiens this no more and the papers for it to cease have been signed. To my name a failed business, it’s Unsettling to have such a failure out there. Calculated risks and conservative experimentation of resources.
