I had this experience where another party is telling me what I should think is fair. I of course, knew better than to disagree openly, instead smiled and provided body language of submission.
No one tells me what I think should be fair. Most importantly no one tells me how to think. For me this is deeply offensive and a betrayal of good faith. Of course I deal with people who throw good faith aside, I have had experience of a party who tried to make us sign a contract they have edited without notice, and to entrap us with inconsistent terms.
Sigh. But the core of my concern is that, fairness is a purely subjective value judgement that you allow the part to make. To dictate how a person should think, by providing data and an argument, s to insult the person who knows better and worse is that the action is a professional breach of good will.
The other party is free to take or leave the deal, as they are free to change the terms as a Counter offer. But they do not change the terms and relieve me if my right to make my own decision.
