Airsoft Economics in the Philippines

Airsoft guns prices are rising every year. Since 2007, airsoft prices has risen to about 8000 from 4000. that is about 15% per year. Airsoft is a sport which requires a lot of investment and over time suffers a High Attrition.

The price of the technology has gone down since China Entered the market and brought the cost of guns down from 15,000 to 5000 in 2007. In 2007 there was an explosion of airsoft players and sites around the philippines.

Because of how limited trade is in the phils many shop owners have limited their importation and increased the margins, because of the total cost of trade and the extra cost because of some elements of corruption in our importation laws. It is really best for them to import fewer and sell more highly as compared to 2007s buying spree.

The problem I think the hobby faces is that as many of the airsoft players get older there is less demand, and eventually the total cost of playing wll continue to go up. This may lead to the total cost of playing airsoft going up far faster than the inflation rate.

Every year the total cost of airsoft goes up by 10% (inflation + many other factors) while the airsoft demand goes down and note that earning capacity for every year on average goes up a little over inflation at about 5%.

Basically at this rate, airsoft would be too expensive to play in the next 5 years. If I applied the inflation of playing cost to Attition, there would be Half as many airsoft players in 5 years. Unless Sellers and Site owners create better value and cost for players, the hobby will become too niche and small to be worth staying for many of the shop owners.
