2 vs 4 year courses. IE, IT, and Engineering.

some recent lesson about Industrial Technology and Industrial Engineer. IT is a 2 year course while the IE is a 4 year course. IT can advance as Foreman and Project Coordinators.
These are 15-20k positions depending on various factors. Interesting thing my Mentor said that, if we get a 4 year course person like IE or Engineering they will advance to PM or Trades (a term for someone who is a “field engineer” ) and that person may leave in 2-3 years. Getting an IT

The IE can advance as QA and usually hit a dead end with QC (downstream). When you have QC the company is not thinking as long term as Making Quality processes with QA (Assurance means that Activities are with a Standard, that way you prevent defects). QA background is the most flexible because a lot of Mental Artifacts are for framework and systems – learning new systems is easier for them BUT they’ve lost years to system mastery as compared to a specialist.

IE under the Japanese advance a lot to from Production Line to Management. They can be analysts and can be the “master planners”. They are also flexible enough to be Production Supervisors and follow a Production Career Track.   But becuase they didn’t take an Engineering Specialty they have an Advancement cap on top of their “Specialization: Systems” which gives them a 2 year disad when comparing to a Engineering Specialist in advancement.

If you want to get out of QC its a Management decision and Transition with Processes that give Downstream Departments the QC responsibility. Example would be Shipping doing the QC inspection since they are LOADING the items for delivery anyway. If the company is Process Illiterate then its dead-end.

The Company needs to shift to Planning mindset. Multinational are there already, Local Philippine not quite.

We will always hit the WALL of Process and Systems Literacy of the Management and Personnel when executing more precise operation* systems.

*Operations is complex repeating systems with many factors to track. Key idea is routine and annualized patterns. Very Different from Projects which are Temporary and have a definite end.
