Last Friday someone gave me a 45-minute SPIEL of his company after I bought him chamomile tea. I filled up 10 pages of my notebook listening and wrote down all the flaws of his logical arguments and practicalities of his assumptions as well as his failure to maintain eye contact to his only audience and read my body language. Being LOST in our technical sophistication is HUBRIS.

Just because I’m polite and generous doesn’t mean I’m an IDIOT.

My parent’s key rule in money-making – “never undertake anything if there is no one willing to pay for it”. When the client wants it now and willing to shell out (they have a budget), then that’s when we act. Especially when the client has spent resources already.

being asked to Put 1M into a project that fails by my parents’s standard of money-making is impractical. Just because a bunch of people put their money there, doesnt mean they were smart.
One thing I do take away from my parents is the ability to make money with no liquid resources at hand and no cash out.

I had to say “While your proposition is Technically sound…” like 3 times. I’m not arguing about the soundness of your Technical Solution – Google WAVE was technically sound but did not have any adoption. Earlier PALM devices were TECHNICALLY superior but did not get any traction. You may have a solution to cure cancer – but no one will ever buy it then it is pointless. During the hundred schools of thought – there was probably the answers to good gov’t and how we can sustain peace and prosperity – but failing to communicate it just means it is entirely pointless – and as lost as the Library of Alexandria.

The inability to show an accessible Proof of Concept aligned to the Target Audience is a critical flaw in any Enterprise.

Demonstrate – SHOW, don’t tell. the Words of a good GM and Storyteller.
