We’re excited to have Prynze Reyes on board as an intern, helping us build a prototype of our Creative Commons Cepheus Engine Ship, the TL9 Merchant Trader. Our goal is to create immersive materials that allow players to explore the ship without relying on Blender.
Exploring GODOT: A Learning Experience
We’re experimenting with GODOT to learn its capabilities and costs for creating components. We’ll start by building a ship and later tackle more complex projects, such as a 300DT Spin habitat. This is crucial because we plan to have adventures in various sizes of spin habitats, which will be a key aspect of the Mneme setting.
Mneme: A Harsh but Human-Friendly Sci-Fi Setting
In Mneme, humans live in spin habitats embedded in asteroids, planetoids, or dwarf planets. We don’t need to populate entire rings; instead, we can use counterweights and strips to create habitable areas. This design offers several benefits, including:
- Reduced RPM for 1 gravity
- Better protection from radiation and extreme temperatures
- Improved air pressure and gravity in lower-gravity environments
Open-Source Development
We’re creating open-source products that allow users to modify and extend our game engines and tools. We hope to have a supportive community backing us up, as Jay and Paolo are already doing.
GODOT Game-Walkthrough Feedback and Future Plans
If our GODOT walkthrough receives enough feedback, we’ll consider developing the Mneme Exploration Engine, which will include 3D game tools for exploring and building sci-fi settings. Our initial focus will be on communicating the scale of a star system and time, followed by more detailed features that enable world builders to create save files and share them with players.
